1. Who is/has been a musical inspiration in your life?

I’m most consistently inspired by my peers and colleagues; getting an insider’s look on how hard my friends work, how creative they are on and off their instruments, and their unique takes on music and life never fails to open my mind and appreciate the great people I get to work alongside.

2. Do you have any pre- and post-concert rituals?

Unfortunately for me, I don’t like bananas…and things don’t usually ever go as planned before a concert! But I definitely have a standard post-concert ritual: FOOD. It never tastes better than after a performance.

3. If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to, and why?

My mom made some eggs and tomatoes when I was home last month and they were really fantastic; I’d probably go back and have those again.

4. Aside from your musical accomplishments, what is something you’ve done that makes you proud?

I adopted a 6-week old kitten on a whim my senior year of my undergraduate studies, and three years later, she’s still alive and healthy! (Proud mama) Besides that, I once published a short story I wrote for 8th grade English class on Amazon Kindle for fun and it actually sold a few copies…

Victoria Marshall, mezzo-soprano

1. Why did you want to spend part of your summer at the TSM Academy?

Art-song was a first love, and I’m always seeking opportunities to return to the sensitivity and nuance of that world. And of course, doing so while joining such an amazing group of students and faculty is always inspiring!

2. If you weren’t pursuing a career in music, what might you be doing?

Radio Host/Performer of Audiobooks

3. What is your favourite music joke/pun?

What’s the definition of an alto? A soprano who can sight read. 😉

4. What is your favourite go-to food/meal?

You can’t go wrong with a hard-boiled egg!

Jared Tehse, piano

1. Who is/has been a musical inspiration in your life?

There are many musicians who inspire me! I am a strong believer in listening to many types of music because each and every artist has something completely unique to offer to us. If I had to select five I would choose (in no particular order): Frank Sinatra, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Michael Buble, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and David Foster.

2. What is your favourite music joke/pun?

There are too many to Liszt!

3. Aside from your musical accomplishments, what is something you’ve done that makes you proud?

I feel strongly that being a well balanced person creates a well rounded musician. I have always been heavily involved in athletics my entire life and still am today. During my minor hockey days, I won an award for the top hockey player in my home city’s zone. The award is presented to a player for their desire, dedication and love of the game. Away from athletics and music, I really enjoy giving back to the community. For the past eight years I have been a staff member for Autism Services in Saskatoon. This job has allowed me to get to know and help many children that have Autism. Just recently, I was promoted to Autism Services Summer Camp Coordinator and I could not be more proud to make a difference in many of the children’s summers that come to camp.

4. If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to, and why?

I’d love to go to the 1950’s and watch Frank Sinatra perform live in Vegas!

1. Do you have any pre- and post-concert rituals?

I just whisper repeatedly to myself “It will be great, I believe myself!” right before I get up on stage.

2. What is your favourite music joke/pun?

What do you call a laughing piano?

A Yamahahaha

3. If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to, and why?

I would like to go back to my freshmen year and travel to Spain with my friends.  I’ve heard that Spain is a very passionate country and I just hope to feel like Carmen!

4. Who is/has been a musical inspiration in your life?

My musical inspiration is Itzhak Perlman. I like his performances and the comfortable and peaceful expression on his face.
