Born in Vienna in 1938 but a Canadian resident for more than 50 years, pianist Anton Kuerti, OC is one of Canada’s very finest musicians. He has won his highest renown for his insightful interpretations of such illustrious Austro-German composers as Beethoven (he recorded a complete set of the 32 Piano Sonatas during the 1970s, and the complete Piano Concertos in the 1980s), Schubert, Brahms and Schumann. This concert pays sincere and much deserved homage to this great artist, through music with which he was closely associated throughout his career. Pianist Jane Coop performs in every piece, from the winsome solo Bagatelles of Beethoven to the monumental Piano Quintet by Schumann. Former TSMF Artistic Director and world-class violist Douglas McNabney joins Laura Pudwell and Jane Coop for the two deeply expressive songs that Brahms scored for the fascinating combination of voice, viola, and piano.
