Mahler & Friends: Vienna Piano Trio
Saturday, July 24 at 8:00pm, Walter Hall

The stellar Vienna Piano Trio, hailed by BBC Music Magazine for performances that are “quite simply, stunning,” presents a programme of highly emotional early works by composers who enjoyed close ties, personal as well as stylistic. With Arnold Schoenberg’s ultra-Romantic love poem, Transfigured Night, the Trio envelopes the listener in passionate feeling. They also perform a lyrical trio by Alexander Zemlinsky and the Brahms-influenced, one-movement Piano Quartet which Gustav Mahler composed as a student.
A. Schoenberg: Verklärte Nacht, Op. 4 (Transfigured Night) A. von Zemlinsky: Piano Trio, Op. 3 G. Mahler: Piano Quartet in A minor (1876) (with Sharon Wei, viola)
