As we conclude 2020, we are reminded that whether in person, online, or in any form, music brings us all together and connects us with one another. As always, we could not have done this without you. It is thanks to you that we are able to offer our programming, support artists, and continue to build and strengthen our TSM family and community.
From our Opening Night with James Ehnes and our spectacular Saturday Showcase series, to our super fun Kids Concerts and our impressive Fellow Fridays featuring past and present Academy Fellows, we have been treated to performances by some of the most fabulous musicians from around the world at this year’s Online Festival!
We are thrilled to share with you some exciting stats from our first-ever Online Festival:
- Reach of over 18,000 online viewers
- Audience members from over 45 countries around the world including Australia, Japan, South Africa, Mexico, Israel, Finland, Taiwan, India, and the UK
- 20 live-stream events featuring over 50 artists including James Ehnes, the Dover Quartet, Colin Carr, Julie Albers, Ema Nikolovska, and Philip Chiu, as well as the local talents of VC2 Cello Duo, Ladom Ensemble, and Tom Allen
- 14 works by Canadian and living composers, including Pouya Hamidi, Ana Sokolović, Matt Brubeck, Hannah Ishizaki, and Jessie Montgomery
We are amazed and heartened by the outpouring of generous support during our first-ever Online Festival and in celebration of our 15th anniversary. We are delighted to report that our Matching Campaign was a huge success! Thanks to you, we met and even exceeded our goal of $20,000 in donations, which will go a long way to ensuring that the future of classical music in Toronto’s summer remains healthy and thriving.
Knowing that we can always come together to listen to music is what will keep us going through adversity. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for your generosity. And, most of all, thank you for listening.
Stay safe and keep in touch!
